FlightIQ Privacy Policy
Contact: use the feedback option in TestFlight or the App Store listing.
1. Overview
FlightIQ is a study and training aid for student and licensed pilots. It is not a substitute for a certificated flight instructor, official weather briefings, or FAA regulations.
2. Data stored on your device
FlightIQ stores the following on your device: your training profile (name, aircraft, home airport, hours, checkride date, goals), logbook entries, credentials and endorsement dates, drill results and short session summaries, and chat transcripts. This data stays on your device unless you create an account.
3. AI processing
When you use AI features, your questions and answers, along with a short summary of your training context (for example certificate, hours, weak areas, and recent session summaries), are sent to Anthropic's API to generate the response. Logbook photos you choose to scan are sent to Anthropic for text extraction. Anthropic processes this data under its commercial terms. Anthropic's commercial terms state that API inputs are not used to train its models. This data is not used for advertising.
4. Weather
Airport codes are sent to aviationweather.gov (NOAA) to fetch METAR and TAF reports.
5. Optional account and instructor sharing
If you create an account, your email, name, and password (stored hashed) are kept on our server, which is hosted on Render with its database on Neon in the United States.
If you link to an instructor, we sync your profile, certificate, ACS progress, hours and 61.109 requirement status, credential expiry dates, readiness score, drill accuracy, and short session summaries. Your linked instructor can view them and write focus notes. Full chat transcripts are never uploaded.
If you join a flight school through an invite link or code, the school can see your name, your instructor's name, whether you have joined, and a progress summary: total hours, flight requirements met, and your last flight date. Schools do not see your chat transcripts. A school that invites you provides FlightIQ Pro for you while you are a member.
6. Subscriptions
FlightIQ Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple. We receive a signed transaction record (product, purchase and expiry dates, and a transaction ID) to unlock Pro on your account; we never see your payment details.
7. What we don't do
- No advertising.
- We do not sell your data.
- No third-party tracking or analytics SDKs.
8. Notifications and permissions
- Local notifications are used for drill and credential reminders.
- Camera and photos are used only to scan logbook pages you choose.
- Microphone and speech recognition are used only when you tap the mic. Speech recognition is performed by Apple's speech service.
9. Retention and deletion
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings → Instructor sharing → Delete account) or on the instructor dashboard. This permanently removes your server data, with one exception: when an instructor has signed a logbook entry or endorsement for you, the instructor keeps their own record of that signature (the names, the endorsement text, the date and a content hash) for three years from the signature date, because 14 CFR 61.189 requires instructors to keep it. It is then deleted. On-device data is removed by deleting the app. Session history can be cleared in Settings → What FlightIQ Remembers.
10. Children
FlightIQ is not directed to children under 13.
11. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date.
